Administrator of the Year

Congratulations to Dr. Jerry Shipp, Director
of Career and Technical Education at Texarkana Area Vocational Center, who
has been named the 2008-2009 Career and Technical Education Administrator of
the Year. Shipp is the first recipient of the award presented by the
Arkansas Association of Career and Technical Education Administrators. The
award recognizes and honors outstanding Career and Technical Education
Administrators who exhibit quality leadership in their respective field.
Dr. Shipp has spent thirty-seven years in the
field of Career and Technical Education with twenty-four of those years as a
Marketing instructor, and the last 13 years as Director of Career and
Technical Education for the Texarkana Arkansas School District and the
Texarkana Area Vocational Center. He is responsible for the administration,
budget, recruitment, evaluations, and selection process of the 32 people on
his staff, as well as, overseeing the Career and Technical programs on four
campuses within the Texarkana School District.
Dr. Shipp has had many honors at both the
local and national level. In 2005, the National Association of Career and
Technical Education presented Dr. Shipp the National Outstanding Service
Award in recognition of his meritorious contributions to the field of
vocational, technical, and practical arts education throughout his
professional career. Dr. Shipp has also been named as a Distinguished
Alumnus of the Texarkana Arkansas School District by the Board of Education
and was once named the Association of Career and Technical Education (ACTE)
Region IV Educator of the Year.
Dr. Shipp will be recognized as the Career
and Technical Administrator of the Year at the AAEA Summer Conference held
August 2-4, 2009.
